Published in The Bastille Magazine vol. III

Bastille Mag 3 cover

The Bastille Magazine is the flagship publication of the Paris Spoken Word community. Last year’s issue set the bar quite high, and this year’s Bastille does not disappoint.

It’s beautifully put together, thematically consistent, graphically persistent, and the writing is sharp, hard-hitting, and a testament to the times we live in. Thomas Jefferson once said: “the man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man that reads nothing but newspapers.” The Bastille 2014 takes the journalistic aesthetic and transforms it into something more, at once relevant and full of depth.

Interesting times, written about by interesting writers: David Barnes, Helen Cusack O’Keeffe, Vincent Douarre, Samantha Fields, Antonia Klimenko, Imane Guermoudi, Dylan Harris, James Jewell, Evan Knight, Anita Koester, Alex Manthei, Rethabile Masilo, Alberto Rigettini, Troy Yorke…  The list goes on.

You can pick up a copy at Shakespeare & Company, the Monte en l’Air bookshop, or order it online (

You can read my poem The Sandwich-Board Man on page 75, and my obituary on page 88.
